• Save Educators Rising Arizona

    50,048 of 100,000 signatures

The Arizona Department of Education (ADE) is planning on eliminating the director and program specialist role for Educators Rising Arizona (EdRisingAZ) and merging the organization with Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) of Arizona.

EdRisingAZ is the premier teacher recruitment organization for high school and collegiate students who want to enter the education profession with over 1,500 members in Arizona.

It lives in the same family of organizations like FFA, DECA, HOSA, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and SkillsUSA--in fact, EdRising the second oldest in the United States; you may know it as Future Teachers of America or Future Educators Association.

Arizona faces one of the worst teacher shortages in the United States, and we know from research that over 60% of teachers teach with 20 miles of where they went to high school. That means the current EdRisingAZ members are our future teacher workforce.

If we are serious about teacher recruitment, we are urging ADE to reverse its decision to eliminate the full-time director and program specialist position and to reverse its decision to merge EdRisingAZ with FCCLA.

  • PV MALL REDEVELOPMENT - SAVE THE LAST CUBE

    50,048 of 100,000 signatures

These beautiful entrance cubes are are a defining characteristic of Paradise Valley Mall. According to Rafique Islam, the architect who designed the mall, “The theme of the mall starts with the entrance. It has to be visible and identifiable in the daytime as well as at night and be able to be moved when the mall expands. So we designed a cube.” Unfortunately only one of these iconic cubes remains. Since they were designed to be moved, there is no reason why it cannot be taken down intact (and hopefully incorporated into the new build) instead of being destroyed with the rest of the mall. Please sign the petition to ask the developer to save the remaining cube for future generations to enjoy!

  • Justice for Daniel Robinson

    50,048 of 100,000 signatures

My name is David Robinson and I am the father of the geologist, Daniel Robinson, who has been missing in Buckeye, Arizona since June 23, 2021. From the first day that I arrived in Phoenix, Arizona, I have done more to find my son than the law enforcement agency, whose jurisdictional authority covers where he was last seen and where his vehicle was recovered. The Buckeye PD investigation has not gathered any evidence of their own. They are unwilling to move beyond their theory which leads to non-action on their part. This petition is another step in holding the Buckeye Police Department accountable to make sure this case is taken seriously.

We have done a total of seven searches that have recovered the remains of about six people, hopefully bringing closure to other families. My public searches are coming to their completion, and the Buckeye Police Department has a responsibility to continue. This petition will ensure that this happens.

My family has a high interest in the outcome of the investigation, seeing that everything that needs to be done is done to bring my son, her son, their brother, their nephew, their grandchild, and their cousin home. Since most of my family cannot be here to talk directly to the Buckeye Police Department, this petition gives them the ability to have their voices heard. Daniel's family will feel empowered knowing that they have the community's support and an agreed upon desire to see that everything is being done to find Daniel.

So far in 2021, Arizona has 915 people missing. Arizona ranks #4 in the country with the most missing people each year. Organizations like NameUs, who rely on public input, have about 1,300 unidentified persons. This is without knowing the total number by the FBI's National Crime Information Center. Missing Persons is a growing problem for Arizonians. The other problem is knowing that many families never get closure and feel that they didn't get an urgent response from the law enforcement office with jurisdiction of their case.

It appears that the Buckeye Police Department lacks the training to effectively conduct searches for missing persons. Hopefully, this petition can start the process of having funds reallocated to programs that focus solely on Missing Persons, Missing and Exploited Children, and identifying remains found in the desert. Arizona is among unique places with natural conditions that wreak havoc on the remains of a human's body. If a missing person finds themselves in a desert situation, their rescue must be swift. Unfortunately, the police officers are not equipped, nor are they appropriately trained in rescuing and recovering a missing person. This petition is needed so that the community can move towards a solid resolution to the growing problem found in the state of Arizona.

We would like to have Daniel’s investigation changed from a missing person to a criminal investigation. This change in investigation status will allow the Buckeye Police Department to use the evidence obtained to seek warrants. Daniel went missing from his job site on June 23, 2021, and his Jeep Renegade was found about two miles from his said Jobsite on July 20, 2021. Since my son was reported missing, the Buckeye Police Department has done very little. Before the vehicle was found, they did two confirmed searches that included the area where my son was last seen and where my son's vehicle would have been discovered in the future. Those two searches resulted in no findings of any kind. Since then, the public searches that I created have recovered about six human remains in the same areas that the Buckeye Police Department said they thoroughly searched for my son. With the coordination of my private investigator, my searches later recovered evidence that backs up the data taken from the vehicle's black box. The problem is, the Buckeye Detectives told me that the data showed that my son was driving in excess of 30 + mph at the point of impact, and all the airbags deployed because of the rollover. However, when my investigator read the exact information provided by the Buckeye PD, he found that the vehicle was traveling under 30 mph. In addition, he found that the car was also cranked in excess of 40 times after the initial impact that caused the deployment of the airbags. The vehicle was driven over seven miles after the initial crash and airbag deployment; the damage on the Jeep was not consistent with where the vehicle was found, nor did it match the terrain of the desert where it was found. Unfortunately, the Buckeye detectives did not know how to read their own pulled data, or they were intentionally trying to mislead me. The shortcomings of the Buckeye Police Department have been plentiful. Unfortunately, I have found that they have lied or approached the investigation in a nonchalant manner on several occasions.

The evidence is clear that this should be changed to a criminal investigation because my private investigator found that my son's vehicle was staged and that a possible crime had occurred. To date, there have been no warrants sought for my son. The Buckeye Police Department refuses to change its theory and wants to continue in a missing person direction. Based on the evidence, this is unacceptable and the Buckeye Police Department must be held accountable!

  • Rezone Vineyard Park Communities into Evergreen/District 8 High Schools of ESUHSD.

    50,048 of 100,000 signatures

Vineyard Park is a set of communities bounded by White Road, Quimby Road, Norwood Creek, and Thompson Creek in Evergreen/District 8 of the City of San Jose, CA. The residents of these communities would like to petition ESUHSD to make the zoning for high schools to be optional for the two Evergreen/District 8 High Schools Evergreen Valley High School, and Silver Creek high school.

We are not proposing changing boundaries but demanding justice for the gross negligence that has been used by the ESUHSD board in throwing communities of the 'Vineyard Park' neighborhood into the W.C. Overfelt High School.

We cite ESUHSD board guidelines document BP5118 clauses that have been ignored in assigning this neighborhood to W.C. Overflew High School.

    1. BP5118 Clause - Avoid “splitting” families, i.e., certain grades from an area go to one school, and the remaining grades from the same area go to another school. Each family will have the option of sending all of its children to the same school. A family having one child in elementary and middle school and another in high school has to go 4 miles in opposite direction to drop the children while there is an Evergreen Valley high school less than 0.5 miles from their elementary Norwood Creek school and Quimby Oak middle school.

Negligence - All of the children from this neighborhood attend elementary and middle schools that feed either into Evergreen Valley High School or Silver Creek High school.

    2. BP5118 Clause - Attempt to set lines at logical boundaries such as freeways, streams, etc. Consider the availability of access to the “new” school. Avoid gerrymandering—aim for natural lines. Avoid splitting streets that would put different sides of the street in different attendance areas.

Negligence - This neighborhood is bounded by two natural creeks, i.e. Norwood Creek on the East and Thompson Creek on the North. It's also bounded by an 8 lane Capitol Expressway on the North of Thompson Creek. ESUHSD board has been negligent to 13 and 14 years olds by asking them to cross 8 lanes Capitol Express to go to W.C. Overfelt High School 3 miles away while there exists Evergreen Valley High School 1 mile away. The students across White Road go to Evergreen Valley High School and while the students across Quimby Road go to Silver Creek High School.

    3. BP5118 Clause - Consider student travel.
W.C. Overfelt high school is 3 miles away from the said Vineyard Park neighborhood and the only route is to go over natural Thompson Creek crossing an 8 lane Capitol Expressway.

    4. BP5118 Claus - Consider coincidence with elementary district and school boundaries.

W.C. Overflew caters to Alum Rock Elementary School District and is part of the City of San Jose District 5 while the Vineyard Park neighborhood is part of Evergreen Elementary School District and part of the city of San Jose District 8.

  • CLEAR JEFF ACE WALKERS NAME

    50,048 of 100,000 signatures

JEFF WALKER IS AN INNOCENT MAN, HE WAS WRONGFULLY CONVICTED AND SETTING OUT TO CLEAR HIS NAME.

In 2005, I was falsely convicted out of San Francisco and served 10 years un-justifiably. I have new facts and evidence to support the single complaining witness gave false and perjured testimony to the police prelim hearing and at trial. The prosecution committed misconduct by introducing false and perjured testimony of a single complaining witness and personally testified to false perjured testimony to the jury and more.

The police withheld material evidence in my favor that would have proven my actual innocence. Defense counsel provided in effective assistance of counsel and failed to research the laws in business related offenses. The defense counsel failed to argue the strongest available legal defenses as a business owner and failed to present my business license to support its legality. By his failure to do all stated I was falsely convicted. this fight to clear my name is not just about me, but also the many others who have been falsely convicted.

I want my name cleared for I have been well loved from the bay area through across state and overseas as The Roseman, entertainer, former Soul Train Dancer and more. now I want my family, kids, friends and others to know the truth.

WE NEED YOUR SIGNATURE TO HELP CLEAR AN INNOCENT MANS NAME Jeff's story is one of tainted trials and stolen justice. Jeff Walker, was wrongfully convicted for pandering. His ex-employee Juliana Ramos Gradiallas, in San Francisco on September 17, 2005.

Please sign the petition and share so we can present this to the governor and DA. Please read his story below coming soon.

I, Jeff Walker met Juliana Ramos Gradillas, my ex employee when I was an entrepreneur and business owner of several businesses in 2005. At the time I was also pursuing my career in acting, modeling, entertainment and working on my album as well as promoting others. Then I was picked up and brought aboard to be a part of the Wild 94.9 Dog House Radio Morning Show, with the founder J. V. and his crew. I played the character Mr. Wonderful, the corporate Pimp in comedy. I was challenged to do stunts, conducted celebrity interviews, made guest appearances and spoke on the air in my character wearing suits and hats which is my entertainment trademark since 2000.

After meeting Juliana in April 2005, a 22 year old female in San Jose, California. She came to my office to go over the business "Mr. Wonderful Entertainment" which is one of companies that I owned, which featured male and female exotic dancers for bachelor/bachelorette parties, special events, etc... and get them bookings or find them work in the industry. Juliana agreed to be an exotic dancer in my Company. She filled out an application and was hired. This is noted in her written statement to the police. Acting as an agent I set out to find Juliana G work as an exotic dancer in the San Francisco strip club. She was also on call for bachelor party bookings, etc.

On April 29, 2005 Juliana came to my office located at 22 South White Road, San Jose, CA at the time, so that we could go to San Francisco to get her an audition for a job as a stripper. She brought extra clothing etc... for auditions. She was accompanied by her boyfriend Isaiah Logan who I also offered a job as a male Chippendale exotic dancer in which he laughed and declined. The victim "Juliana Ramos Gradillas" alleged that she was taken to various strip clubs for auditions in S.F. North Beach area. She told the police several different stories about these strip clubs and auditions. In the written reports she states " she only went to strip club for auditions but never danced or made money. In the crime report, her story changed. She then said, "she danced in two strip clubs, made money in them and gave it to me". She also stated that we left at 3 a.m. BUT COULD NOT REMEMBER THE NAMES OF THE CLUBS she alleged to have gone to, danced in nor a club she made money in.

JURY TRIAL IMPEACHMENT, during strip club impeachment at trial, Juliana G, was caught lying on numerous occasions about strip club acts, times in club's, clubs danced in and made money in. She admitted during impeachment that she lied to Inspector Sirigusa, when she said she went straight home after the strip club because a witness at the preliminary placed her at a bachelor party that she was booked for in my company by him at 11:30 p.m. According to the witness Juliana and I was on the freeway coming from San Francisco headed to San Jose when she was booked. At trial another witness (the bachelor) took the stand and testified that Juliana and I arrived at his bachelor party between 12-12:30a.m. to 4 a.m. Where she provided entertainment at the party and gave him a private show.

So it would be impossible to be in two places at the same time as noted because we were in San Jose California at the bachelor party and not in San Francisco at the time of the alleged crime.

Not one police officer was called to the stand who supposedly investigated to confirm her stories, because they knew from their investigations that she lied and the prosecution knew this as well. That's why the prosecutor never called them to the stand.

ALL EVIDENCE IS MISSING. Since when does, allegation of a crime in strip clubs, alleged but know investigations produced. Doesn't this sound strange? If I was guilty, why wasn't anyone able to confirm what my ex employee said, to see if it was true before charging me with a case and then taking me to trial.

PRIVATE DEFENSE COUNSEL APPOINTED BY THE COURTS, failed to research and argue the strongest available legal defense concerning business related adult entertainment businesses. He failed to present my business license to support this. As a result this case was tried as a street pandering offense although not charged with pimping because there was no sex or lewd acts alleged to have occur in any strip club. Nonetheless, the judge allowed the prosecution to depict me as a black street pimp because I wore suits, hats, fancy dress and had nice things that were told to the judge in racial prejudice even my character on the radio was used against me, where I was wearing these same suits and hats. Had my counsel presented my business legality he would have found that I had first amendment protections as a business owner. That means that all evidence allowed could be introduced by prosecutions concerning street pimp would have been excluded and not allowed leaving no case whatsoever.

I now have filed a writ of habeas corpus (case 7572 filed July 12, 2021) in the San Francisco Superior Court arguing factual innocence, newly discovered evidence ineffective assistance of counsel, prosecutorial misconduct and the lying testimony of a single witness knowing she was committing false and perjured testimony and failed to correct it. The prosecutor also committed perjury by lying to the judge telling him that I was a street pimp when she had investigations and police reports that stated that I was a business owner and withheld this from the courts and never turned it over to defense counsel in prejudice, which is a due process violation.

Despite all the injustices listed above so far we continue to fight to clear Jeff walkers name.

Donations made through this site support Change.org signatures for the petition. PLEASE SUPPORT JEFF WALKERS DEFENSE FUND through GofundMe at:

  • Move Safe Parking Pilot Program to a Lot that Doesn't Impact Any Richmond Neighborhood

    50,048 of 100,000 signatures

Richmond City Council has voted to place a Safe Parking Pilot Program for unhoused individuals in front of City Hall at Civic Center. The residents of Richmond, CA demand that the Richmond City Council call for a reconsideration of the vote selecting Civic Center as the location for the Safe Parking Pilot Program. We demand that Richmond City Council selects a site outside of residential neighborhoods.

Under the current plan, neither children nor pets are provided for. As the program currently stands, the 90-180 day window would force people to relocate shortly after moving to the site. Not providing the program participants with a long-term place to park means that when they are forced to leave, they would spill out into whichever neighborhood the program is placed in.

The Civic Center area is already riddled with crime, including drug use, gun violence, and prostitution. Placing the site in the Civic Center Parking Lot would be counter productive and would only be a temporary solution. This site is already unsafe, and placing an at risk community that needs extra safety in this location does not benefit the participants of the program or the residents and businesses of the neighborhood.

The project has lacked transparency from the beginning, and the current plan has left Richmond residents with many questions that the City is unwilling to answer. The draft budget presented to the City Council on February 2nd, 2021 is already at $591,000 - significantly over the $560,000 funds allocated for this project. Furthermore, site preparation, refuse removal, storage, and flexible funds to pay for unanticipated expenses are not included in the budget. The proposal suggests the Civic Center lot will be the most expensive to prepare and the costs of preparation are unknown. How much extra will this project cost Richmond taxpayers, and where will that money come from? Which already underfunded programs in Richmond will need to be cut in order to pay for the excess funding the Safe Parking Pilot Program will require? After the one year term of the Safe Parking program ends, there is no plan or budget for how to end the project, and the program could remain in the North & East neighborhood indefinitely.

Citizens from all over Richmond have signed this petition to show that they do not believe any residential neighborhood is the correct place for this site, and to show their support for a site that is outside the residential areas.

Per the San Jose Mercury News, Richmond, CA has other programs such as GRIP's Project Roomkey that are currently under investigation by Contra Costa County for mismanagement after reports of child murder on site, alleged failure to keep accurate records and report information to the county. Officials also listed numerous complaints from clients, community members and staff that included theft of client belongings and information, maltreatment of clients and staff, misuse of county-funded facilities, illegal activity by staff, failure to conduct background checks, health concerns related to food preparation and pandemic safety protocols, and failure to compensate staff. See the Report about Project Roomkey Here

Please sign this petition to let the City Council know that relegating high risk members of our community to the center of residential neighborhoods without a thorough plan does not benefit anyone.

  • Bob Castellini, Sell the Cincinnati Reds

    50,048 of 100,000 signatures

Bob Castellini has been a pathetic failure to the Cincinnati Reds organization.

He bought the franchise in January 2006, promising winning baseball. But that has turned out to be a blatant lie. The Reds have missed the playoffs 12 out Castellini’s 16 years, finishing higher than 3rd in NL Central just twice. And in the rare instance the Reds have made the playoffs, it’s been ugly, from not scoring a single run over 22 innings in the 2020 Wild Card game, to the disappointment that was the 2013 Wild Card game, to getting swept in the 2010 NLDS, to the colossal collapse in the 2012 NLDS against San Francisco. And mind you, these were all teams that made little to no trade deadline moves, despite heavy fan support to do so. And I won’t even get into the absolute chokejob that was the 2021 Reds season.

During his tenure, the Reds have witnessed the departure of countless star players and fan favorites, whether through Free Agency or in a trade that netted a completely lackluster return. Johnny Cueto. Adam Dunn. Shin-Soo Choo. Todd Frazier. Jay Bruce. Aroldis Chapman. Scooter Gennett. Billy Hamilton. Raisel Iglesias. Zack Cozart. Trevor Bauer. And now, likely Nick Castellanos. He traded star prospects Josiah Gray + Jeter Downs for Matt Kemp. He chose Devin Mesoraco over Yasmani Grandal. He traded multiple young prospects (i.e. Josh VanMeter) for Archie Bradley, who was used for exactly 7.2 innings and subsequently non-tendered in free agency.

He almost traded Joey Votto in 2011 (ONE year after his MVP campaign where he posted a 172 wRC+ in 150 games) in favor of Yonder Alonso. He almost traded Sonny Gray this past offseason, despite having 3 years left of affordable team control and already having lost Trevor Bauer to the Dodgers. He extended Homer Bailey to one of the worst pitching contracts of all time. He signed Shogo Akiyama to a $21 Million contract and Mike Moustakas to $64 Million deal. And while there's still hope for Eugenio Suarez, he’s being paid $11 million annually and has been a below average hitter the last two seasons.

With Castellini at the helm, the Reds have made numerous head-scratching draft picks that came back to haunt them. We drafted Phillip Ervin over Aaron Judge. Blake Trahan over Brandon Lowe. Alex Blandino over Jack Flaherty. Nick Travieso over Corey Seager and Lucas Giolito. Drew Stubbs over Max Scherzer and Tim Lincecum. And while Billy Hamilton quickly became a fan favorite speed demon, drafted only picks after was Nolan Arenado. His newest regime grossly misused former-top 5 prospect Nick Senzel as well, completely derailing his a bright career due to countless position switches.

Oh but surely these are all just the shortcomings of having a poor general manager in charge at the time right? Well the Reds have had five different general managers and regimes since Castellini first bought the team. Who do you think hired Wayne Krivsky? Or Walt Jocketty? Or Dick Williams? Or Nick Krall? The same can be said about the five different managers the Reds have had since Castellini purchased the franchise.

Why else do you think Kyle Boddy and CJ Gillman, the chief analytical minds behind the Reds’ best farm system in a while, “mutually parted ways” with the team, citing different organizational philosophies? When Boddy and Gillman were hired, the Reds farm system ranked as 28th in Major League Baseball. Now it’s ranked universally inside the top 10. Yet Bob’s front office believes they need a staff overhaul? After all, Driveline Baseball produced Jonathan India, Tyler Stephenson, Tejay Antone, Hunter Greene, Nick Lodolo, Jose Barrero, Vladimir Gutierrez, Tony Santillan, as well turned Trevor Bauer from a fringe major-leaguer into a C Young Winner. Just read Boddy’s statement:

“The Reds are moving in a different direction in many areas of player development and I certainly wish them the best. It no longer felt like the best fit for either party. I’m exceptionally proud of the results we got in the minor leagues—our MiLB pitchers as a group went from sixth-worst to sixth-best in xERA (expected ERA) out of 30 organizations in just two years—with a number of notable prospects doing well and popping up on radars everywhere.”

It couldn’t be any clearer to Reds fans or benevolent spectators alike. Bob Castellini simply doesn’t care about the on-field product. He’d rather just cut costs and keep as much profit to himself as humanly possible, as made apparent in his international checking accounts, donations to political campaigns that have surpassed a million dollars since he first purchased the franchise, crying poor in the 2020 offseason despite boasting a net worth of $400 Million and overseeing Cincinnati’s fifth-largest private company, a produce distributor that brings over one billion dollars of annual revenue.

Simply put, Bob Castellini just doesn’t care for the Cincinnati Reds and our die-hard hard fanbase, so please, from the very bottom of our perpetually-broken hearts, sell the team to someone who does.

I want people to know that not all Asians are Chinese there are Japanese Korean Singaporean Malaysian etc. Last week, an 84 year old Thai man was murd3red in San Francisco, A 64 year old person Vietnamese grandmother was ass4ulted and robbed in San Jose , A 26 year old Yale graduate student was fatally sh0t and k!lled in New Haven, Asians toddlers were st@bed in a grocery store because of Covid and Asian women have been set on fire and thrown acid on. There’s been such a huge surge of attacks on Asian Americans and what’s even more upsetting is that people are using these cases as an excuse to promote anti-blackness. There’s already been such longstanding tensions and rac1al tr4uma between the Asian and Black communities, Instead of playing the blame game, we should be considering WHO benefits from silencing h4te cr1mes against asians and villainizing black people. WHO benefits from putting our groups against each other. We need unity, not division, to fight the oppressive forces that our communities face. These are not isolated incidents, since Covid, anti Asian h@te cr1mes have increased by **1900% and that is the direct result of sinophobic propaganda that the government had fed you. So, please just read about this, educate yourself, share it. Just don’t stay silent

Petition addressed to the City of San Jose Animal Care and Services

    Justice for 4 dead cats

This week, 4 cats from a colony in San Jose suddenly died, although they all seemed perfectly healthy until the day before. Their fur was shining, they were active and eating well. They were not showing any prior signs of disease, but they all died in a 48 hours interval, what makes their deaths very suspicious. We are wondering if those animals were somehow killed. Although those cats lived on that location for years, they were never welcomed and always faced animosity from the surrounding businesses. Those cats didn't deserve to die. We need answers. We need a full investigation to know if their deaths were caused by a criminal and coward act. Justice needs to be served for the cats and OUR community. Let's be the voice of those poor animals who couldn't speak for themselves and fight together for no more impunity! This change will go a long way and make a difference in our city. Thanks to each and every one of you for your support.

  • Community Traffic Awareness / Conciencia Comunitaria del Tráfico: Locust and Virginia St.

    50,048 of 100,000 signatures

The intersection of Virginia and Locust has historically been one of the busiest intersections in the Guadalupe-Washington Community. Within a 1-mile radius around this residential intersection, we have six different school campuses, one public library, two community centers, in addition to a very active catholic church community. Traffic is only intensified with the nearby 280 highway entrance and exit.

As a response, the city of San José has installed a 4- Way Stop to help residents and visitors stay safe, especially as we all anticipate a return to all day-to-day activities post the pandemic. Unfortunately, many community members are still unaware of this change and thus continue to drive down Virginia, not respecting the stop.

On May 10th, 2021, a Rocketship Mateo Sheedy Mother and her three children were almost hit by a vehicle that did not respect the stop. The intersection is always extremely busy but will only intensify with the return to school and more people returning to work in the fall.

Our goal with this petition is to get as many community members to sign as possible to demonstrate to the city that they should be supporting our efforts in making this a safer location for the entire community.

  • Termination of George Parros and changing the NHL Department of safety

    50,048 of 100,000 signatures

We have seen many wrongfully issued penalties and suspension by the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety. It's time for change. As we have seen with Washington Capitals' Tom Wilson's 5000$ fine with a punch on New York Rangers' Pavel Buchnevich and the actions on Artemi Panarin, the fines and suspensions aren't given correctly. Five thousand dollars is not enough money when Wilson gets multiple millions every year. The fined amount needs to be bigger. Wilson has a lot of history with roughing and hits to the head or neck area. The actions that he did against NYR forwards Artemi Panarin and Pavel Buchnevich were suspendable. George Parros has failed suspending him and other players of their actions. The New York Rangers also saw this problem and answered it with a proper statement. They do not need a fine, what San Jose Sharks got in 2013 after complaining about a suspension.

We want Parros' contract terminated and the amount of fines changed. The NHL DoS needs to be better and take note of history with the players. If these things don't change, we want the NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman leaving his resignation immediately.

National Hockey League has to give their penalties well. It's time for a change to the better.

  • To educate and bring awareness to the local community about food waste and composting.

    50,048 of 100,000 signatures

Every year, about 80 billion pounds of food is thrown away and into the landfill. On average, landfill in the U.S. emits about 163 million tons of CO2 into the atmosphere from just waste alone. When wasted food decomposes in a landfill, it creates methane gas which releases into the atmosphere and contributes to global warming. Our goal is to educate the local community about food waste and to encourage them to change their wasteful behaviors. The purpose of our goal is to bring awareness about compositing. We want to educate the public on how to compost and ways to minimize individual food waste and how food waste impacts our landfill. We would like our family, friends, and the public to learn about composting and to find ways to minimize food waste because they impact our landfill. By doing this petition, we hope that this will spread knowledge of food waste with friends and family.

  • We Need Stronger Gun Control

    50,048 of 100,000 signatures

Sandy Hook Elementary School: 27 people killed, 20 of them young children

Las Vegas 2017: 58 people killed and almost 700 injured

Pulse Nightclub, Orlando: 49 people killed and more than 50 injured

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High, Parkland Florida: 17 people lost their lives, 14 of them, students

As of June 1st, The Gun Violence Archive has counted 244 shootings where at least four people were killed. The shooting in San Jose last Wednesday marked the 15th mass murder involving a gun since the beginning of 2021. As a country, we have experienced so much gun violence that it is becoming more normal every day. We can't wait for another Sandy Hook or Parkland to push ourselves to make the necessary change. That is why for my 8th grade civics project, I am calling on our elected officials to create nationwide laws that do the following:

    1. Implement Stronger Background Checks

A mandatory waiting period should take place before anyone is allowed to buy a gun. During that time a thorough background check would be run. This process would then be repeated every 5 years to ensure that the gun owner is still fit to own a weapon.

    2. Create Certificates of Ownership for Firearms

To own a gun, you should be required to have a certificate. Training, testing, and insurance are necessary. Making it harder to own a gun may reduce the number of guns that are in the wrong hands.

    3. Ban the Sale of Assault Weapons

No one should be able to purchase a military-grade or assault weapon in any state. A lot of the weapons used in mass shootings are these types of guns.

For each of these proposed ideas, they must apply to not only public sales but private sales and gun shows.

This isn't enough, but hopefully, it's a good start at reducing the thousands of gun deaths and mass killings that happen every year. Please sign and share so our voices are heard.

  • Build an outdoor Roller Rink - Santa Cruz Skate Community

    50,048 of 100,000 signatures

We, the undersigned, support the creation of a designated outdoor roller skating space in Santa Cruz, California. Roller skating is a fun, affordable way for the whole family to get active and connect to the community. Skate plazas/rinks are a smart use of space and easy to build. In cities like SF, LA, NY & WDC, skate plazas are not only local treasures but bustling tourist attractions and popular venues for planned events, vibrant with music, dance, joy, friendship and community.

We want the same for Santa Cruz! The Skate community here needs it and deserves it!

People love Roller Skating! Already a popular activity in the bay area (Our local Roller Palladium, Aloha Rink in San Jose, SF’s Skatin Place, various other roller rinks, derby leagues and local skate meetup groups), roller skating has seen a surge in new skaters as people look for ways to exercise while remaining outdoors and maintaining distance. In addition to all the new skaters, a large segment of experienced skaters that previously only skated indoors at roller rinks, have discovered and embraced outdoor skating. All this interest and with no place to call their own!

Existing Skate Plazas are vibrant, beloved spaces that enjoy high public approval. Communities LOVE their outdoor roller skate spaces! People not only come to skate but come to picnic and watch because it’s so joyful and entertaining. Roller skate plazas are bustling destinations that combine many components of happiness: music, dance, art, expression, exercise, community, sunshine, laughter and more!

    A few success stories:

Skatin’ Place - San Francisco, CA
Venice Beach Skate Dance Plaza - Los Angeles, CA
Anacostia Park Skating Pavilion - Washington, DC
The Skate Circle - New York, NY

Black Skate Culture is a big deal! Like other activities, roller skating trends go up/down over the years. Interestingly, the black community has held steadfast to skating regardless of trends. Black skate culture has figured prominently in politics, the civil rights movement and new music. So rooted, the connection among black skaters to each other and skating, “skate family” or “skate fam” is the vernacular. The most dedicated travel to rinks all over the country to attend their choice of close to 400 skate parties scheduled every year. While Skate families are tight and involved as ever, they still fight to exist because roller rinks aren’t as profitable as condos and big box stores. The HBO documentary, “United Skates” chronicles blacks skate culture and the steady shuttering of rinks to make way for more profit. We believe with the leadership of organizations like parks & rec. departments, we can keep this vital community alive and skating outside!

In summary, an outdoor skate plaza would be a positive space for Santa Cruzians and a smart build for the City.

Asset to local business - Our skate plaza will be a popular destination with visitors flowing in to visit local small businesses.
Positive Publicity for Santa Cruz - Imagine the cool factor and positive publicity this will contribute to our city!
Big bang for the buck - Relatively low build cost to create a high usage site.
Uncomplicated & familiar construction - A smooth level surface, similar to basketball court at London Nelsen Park would suffice. An open air roofed structure similar to The Rink at Thompson's Point in Maine, Anacostia Skate Plaza in WDC or Harris Pavilion, would support all season use.
Inclusive activity - Recreation that serves a broad range of people: toddlers to seniors of all backgrounds and varying abilities.
Relatively low risk - all activity has associated risks though roller skating at a plaza is lower risk than a number of activities supported by and occupying space in the park system.
Community Builder - Site can host public events. Food truck pop ups, etc. It will strengthen local skate families who are involved community members that take care of each other & mentor their youth.
Educational possibilities - Potentially host K-12 field trips.
Childcare possibilities - Location could be staffed to host After School and Summer Camp programs. Similar programs in the Bay exist, “Skate Like a Girl”, for example.

We truly believe this would be a wonderful addition to our unique city! Thank you for your support. -Santa Cruz Rollers @santacruzrollers

Incredible words & information adapted from the brilliant proposal "Build the Oakland Roller Skate Plaza" thank you, Donna Milich!

  • Save Our Park: Unity Park on Elliott Ave and Post St

    50,048 of 100,000 signatures

Unity Park on the corner of Elliott Ave and Post St. in Yonkers, NY, the south side of Yonkers is being mentioned to be closed! This community is very low income and for many of the familiares, their only outing, is to Unity Park.

There are also area day cares, summer programs, after school programs who use this park. Many local families depend on this park to get exercise and have fun on beautiful days with their neighboring friends. This park has been part of the community for many years and plenty of generations have enjoyed it. Why stop the memories now? Keep our local park open.

Corazón Pineda had a council meeting at the church across, San Andres, and we were told that for April 2020 the park would be renovated and now we are being told it is being closed! How is this fair? South Yonkers can’t be forgotten of. South Yonkers matters as much as the rest of Yonkers.
    please keep Unity Park open.
The community needs it and wants it.

  • Implement a Traffic Calming mechanism on Auzerais Avenue in San Jose, CA

    Auzerais Avenue Traffic Calming Project

    Hello neighbors!

The Auzerais Avenue Traffic Calming Project, in San Jose, California, aims to create social change on a local level by advocating for traffic calming measures in our neighborhood. We are a team of graduate students in San Jose State University's Master of Social Work program, and we are collaborating with the community in order to realize the goal of creating a safer street for our children, families, and all members of our community.

Our cause is safety on our streets, and unfortunately, we have a problem with speeding drivers on Auzerais Avenue that must be addressed before somebody is hurt. Research suggests that traffic calming techniques can be effective in decreasing instances of speeding thereby helping us in our cause to bolster safe streets.

Please join us in this worthy effort by signing this petition. The city council and Councilmember Raul Peralez will be interested to learn how well our mission is supported by the community, and by drawing awareness to the problem, we stand a far better chance of affecting change. Sign the petition today and help us get our message to the decision-makers so we can create a safer future for the Auzerais Avenue community.

Thank you! Together we can make change.
